I did a "Day in the Life" documentary session of this family when the grandparents were visiting Boston. Unlike lifestyle photo sessions which use a stylized approach to capturing life through rose-colored glasses, documentary sessions are unposed and unfiltered, reflecting the realness of daily life. Since I was a child, I have always been drawn to photojournalism and documentary films, and I believe the craziness of family life provide the perfect setting for documentary photography.
I offer both lifestyle and documentary photography to my clients, depending on their preferences. My standard portrait sessions are "lifestyle"; I create candid images that are guided by my vision to capture the subjects in the the best light. They are perfect for holiday cards or for framing. My day in the life sessions are "documentary"; I tell the story as is, without manipulating the scene. We all know that life with children is never polished nor perfect, and documentary sessions are wonderful time capsules for those nostalgic future years that you want to relive those special early family years again.
